Do You Need A Plan?
Do you apply poultry litter or fertilizer on your pastures or hayfields? If so, and your farm is located in the Nutrient Surplus Area, you will need a Nutrient Management Plan. As of January 1, 2007, you are required by state law, Title XXII, to have a Nutrient Management Plan if you want to apply poultry litter or commercial fertilizer to your farm. The Nutrient Surplus Area covers most of Boone County with the Crooked Creek & Buffalo River Watersheds being excluded. The District will write a plan FREE of charge for any farm in or outside of the Surplus Area.
There are many benefits to a Nutrient Management Plan. Here are just a few:
color aerial photos of your farm; acreages of your fields; soil inventories; and litter/commercial fertilizer recommendations; and updated soil tests of your fields.
